  When you  compete  with  yourself , you are, essentially, dismissing other people's measures for success. You might find  yourself  pursuing something that would seem crazy or like a waste of time to someone else, but it doesn't matter anymore — you aren't subject to what they think of you.

  Trusting yourself  means being able to attempt to do all kinds of things without judging  yourself  too harshly. However, if you're looking to build  trust  in  yourself , it can be helpful to do more of the things that you're good at and less of the things that you aren't great at.

  It  may be that you have reached a point in your life where everything feels as though it’s not working out. Instead of one failure, you might have a string of failures with not a single success in sight. When all you’ve experienced is failure after failure, it’s easy to beat yourself up.
